Government has once again fulfilled its promise to beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty programme (LEAP) with the payment of 4 months areas.
Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, the Social Welfare Officer at the Keta Municipal Assembly, Faustina Borkloe said the money covers January to April 2013.
One thousand one hundred and seventeen (1,117) households are benefiting from a total of GHs154, 416 from the Keta Municipality.
This was the second time government has released funds for the programme this year with the first tranche being payment of 2012 arrears.
The LEAP programme provides cash transfer to extremely poor households who do not have alternative means of meeting their subsistence needs and have limited productive capacity. It includes the elderly poor, persons with severe disabilities and in difficult circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Gender and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, has hinted that government is considering extending MASLOC and LESDEP programmes both of which are among the social intervention initiatives by government to augment the LEAP programme.
