Government has paid beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) in the Keta Municipality arears it owed them last year.

The arears which covered the last two months of 2012 were paid to two thousand six hundred and thirty two (2,632) households.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, the Social Welfare Officer of the Keta Municipal Assembly, Faustina Borkloe said a total of Ghs79, 518.00 was disbursed with individuals receiving between Ghs48 to Ghs90.

She also disclosed that government has promised to clear the rest of the arears spanning January this year to date from September 2013. She is therefore hopeful the government will redeem its pledge to bring the needed relief to those poor households.

The Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme is a social cash transfer programme which provides cash and health insurance to extremely poor households across Ghana to alleviate short-term poverty and encourage long term human capital development.
