The chiefs and people of Derma, a predominantly farming community in the Tano-South District have appealed to the government to rehabilitate without delay, the 10 kilometre road that links the town to the Kumasi-Techiman highway.
They said the extent of deterioration was affecting economic activities of the people and a number of settler farming communities, who depend on the road to transport their farm produce.
They noted that the evacuation of huge tones of maize, cocoa, plantain and vegetables to the marketing centres had become a nightmare.
Mr Joseph Asare-Fofie, the assembly member, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that there were reports that the road had been awarded on contract but there was no sign that this was the case.
If indeed the job had been awarded then we would want to see the awarding authority getting the contractors to quickly move to site.
Some of the drivers plying the road complained about the numerous gaping potholes, which poses a danger and also increase the travel time and cost of vehicle maintenance.
They said the years of neglect should end to assure travelers of their safety and comfort
