The Techimantia Circuit of the Methodist Church of Ghana has held a ceremony to award three best teachers of the local Methodist Primary and JHS schools. The church also donated two computers to the schools and presented seventy school uniforms to needy pupils.

At a ceremony at Techimantia to mark the occasion the Circuit Minister of the church and schools and the brain behind the whole idea Rev. David Justice Annan in a welcome address said the idea of instituting the awards and donating the uniforms stemmed from the fact that he one day met a pupil in a torn uniform but was impressed by the type of English the pupil spoke.

He said he discussed the idea with the church members who wholeheartedly embraced the idea and also sought sponsorship from Dunewell Insurance and some Rural Banks to make the concept a success.

In a speech, the Tano South District Director of Education Mrs Mary-Grace Bonye said the ceremony was an honour   to give recognition to teachers as the role of teachers   needed recognition from society hence the National Best Teachers Award.

Mrs Bonye said the Tano South District Directorate acknowledged the fact that education was a potential key to national development; hence, children who were assets for national development deserved quality education which was made possible by dint of a teacher’s hard work. She said teaching as a professional career required commitment, integrity, discipline, role modeling and mentoring and added society must support teachers to inculcate spiritual and moral values in children. She noted the indispensable roles of teachers since they made people professionals.

The former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tano South Constituency Andrew Adjei Yeboah congratulated the organisers of the function and the brain behind the whole idea for the good work done and hoped the awards would continue over the years and pleaded for support for the good move the Rev. minster had initiated.

The Tano South District Chief Executive, Mr Bukari Zakari Anaba expressed delight for being part of the important occasion which sought to reward teachers and make presentations to needy but brilliant children in the Methodist cluster of schools in Techimantia.

Mr Anaba said it was well known that education was the bedrock of every country’s development and therefore expressed appreciated of the District Assembly to the members of Methodist Church Techimantia for the vision they had for education in the District.
