A new community centre constructed at Kwabeng Zongo in the Atiwa District has been inaugurated.

The facility is aimed at providing conducive environment for organizing community development fora such as welfare programmes, income generating activities, vocational and educational programmes, durbars, meetings among others. And to promote communal spirit among the citizens towards accelerated development of the area.

The facility estimated at seventy thousand Ghana Cedis (GHs70, 000.00) with funds from the assembly’s share of the2010 District Development Facility (DDF) has a main forecourt, 200 sitting capacity, store room, modern urinal and office space.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, District Chief Executive for Atiwa, Emmanuel Atta Twum said the centre is in pursuance of the “Better Ghana” agenda which seeks to accelerate the provision of social and economic infrastructure needs including water, electricity and schools of the various communities in the country.

He said his vision is to gradually build Atiwa through even distribution of development projects across the district despite the limited resources.

The DCE reiterated the government commitment to providing the needs of the people to make life better but called for patients  while the government rolls out measures to solve challenges confronting them, adding that some of their needs require time and extensive planning to achieve.

He expressed regret at the sharp drop in participation in communal labour in rural communities which has slowed down development and appealed to the people to rekindle that spirit to contribute to a good course when needed.

Appeal for the continuous support of the chiefs and people in the various communities towards a successful administration.
