Two communities under the Chereponi District in the Northern region have ventured into serious tree planting exercise to assist the district widen the afforestation project in the area.
The project captured under the Ghana Environmental Management Project (GEMP)is being rolled out in Banjani and Tacheku communities both suburbs of the district.
However, the GEMP project being initiated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with its relevant collaborators is practically implemented to tackle the issue of desertification and its attendant effects especially in the three regions up-north where this problem prevails most.
The Assembly therefore managed to secure arable lands this year to begin the first phase of the project in the operational areas to enable it boost its forest cover, and relatively improve the quality of the environment.
The project is expected to be replicated in other communities of the district to guarantee the sustainability of the whole programme in the area.
