AGONA W: Assembly takes steps to fix Swedru bailey bridge

Mr. Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has stated that steps are being taken to fix the Swedru bailey bridge which collapsed about four months ago, to help reduce vehicle and traffic congestion.

Mr. Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has stated that steps are being taken to fix the Swedru bailey bridge which collapsed about four months ago, to help reduce vehicle and traffic congestion.

He said everything possible is being done by the contractor to restore the bridge to ease discomfort to travelers and business operators within the municipality.

Mr. Oppong gave the assurance when he addressed the first ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the Assembly at Agona Swedru.

The MCE, therefore, appealed to the chiefs and people of Agona West to exercise restraint, as government moved swiftly to resolve problems associated with the bridge.

He said the contractor has assured the Assembly that the bridge would be completed by the end of July.

Mr. Oppong said the Assembly envisaged to collect a total revenue of 1,073, 232 Ghana Cedis for this year, but during the first quarter of the year, it collected 2, 79,499 Ghana Cedis, representing 26.04 percent of its estimated revenue.

The MCE disclosed that the Assembly is undertaking about 10 development projects, with funding from the District Development Fund (ADF), the District Assembly common fund and the special fund.

According to the MCE, the Assembly has made progress in the street-naming project, and gave the assurance that it would be completed before deadline given by the President

Mr. Oppong called on stakeholders in the street-naming project to use their expertise to ensure its speedy completion.
