The Swedru Divisional Police Command has appealed to district and municipal assemblies within the division, to take immediate steps to help alleviate the acute accommodation problem confronting personnel of the service.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebenezer Ewudzie Sackey, Acting Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander made the appeal when he addressed officers and men of the command at their Annual West Africa Security Social Activities (WASSA) at Swedru.
According to the Divisional Police command, a number of residential accommodations started by the government in 1972, meant for the police in the seven districts forming the division, have been abandoned.
Some of the accommodation problems facing police personnel in the division will be solved if the abandoned buildings are completed.
He said a modern building for the divisional headquarters that was also started during the period, has also been abandoned .
The situation, DSP Sackey said, has forced the staff of the Division to operate from the living quarters of four inspectors, and therefore appealed to the district and municipal assemblies under the Command, to help complete the buildings.
He hinted that the Divisional Command was liaising with the district assemblies to open more police stations at some fasting growing towns.
He said criminal cases in the Division had decreased tremendously with the assistance of watch dog committees, sister security agencies, chiefs and the general public.
He therefore appealed to the chiefs and people in the Division to continue to assist the police to combat crime.
