The contractor working on the first lot of the147.5 km Fufulso-Damongo-Sawla road in the western part of the northern region is having it tough with owners of temporal structures along the main street of Damongo.
It is reported that owners of such structures from Laribanga to Fufulso stretch have persistently defied all appeals and warning to evacuate their places to make way for the contractors to work on that portion of the road.
However, the District Chief Executive for the West Gonja District Assembly, Ali Kassim Bakari following this issue made moves to intervene on the matter, and gave an ultimatum for these persons to move their structures.
It is therefore expected that people who occupy such spaces on the stretch have moved their properties by now per the deadline issued(February 20, 2014) by the DCE concerning this directive. Ghanadistricts.com thus will follow up to bring the turn of events on this shortly.
The 147.5 kilometer road project is being worked on by China Waters and Electrical Corporation Ltd(CWE) and China Harbor and Engineering Ltd who have up to 36 months to complete the entire project. A minimum of 12 months is already spent and work on the road is expected to be completed in 2nd January, 2015.
The road project when completed would promote sustainable economic growth and increase trade to serve as a catalyst for the development of the communities located along the route.
