Lack of classroom teachers has become a major threat to the progress of education in the Atwima-Mponua District.
Many of the basic schools are currently handled by just one teacher, a situation, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Stephen Yeboah, described as worrying and completely unacceptable.
Things would have to change to enable kids here to receive quality education and effectively compete with their counterparts elsewhere, he said.
This was when she toured some of the hardest hit schools, including Akomfrekrom, Naagode and Krachikrom D/A primary schools.
He said the Ghana Education Service (GES) was aware of the problem and expressed the hope that it would act without delay to get more teachers posted there.
Another source of concern to the people is the poor nature of roads in the area.
The district could boast of only one tarred road – the Kumasi-Bibiani road which runs through few of its communities.
Mr Yeboah gave the assurance that no effort would be spared to bring about significant improvement to facilitate the movement of people and goods.
