District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, Theophilus Aidoo Mensah has raised serious concerns about people burying dead bodies at homes instead of in cemeteries.

He noted that despite the environmental and health concerns of the practice, it rather on the increase and gradually becoming a norm in the district. He said every family wants their deceased relatives to be buried close to them even though a lot of things go on during decomposition and the effect with water bodies drawn from underground.

The DCE who was addressing the fourth ordinary meeting of the six assembly said attempt to discourage people from engaging in the practice by increasing charges on such permits a number of times never served its purpose as they kept paying whatever amount they are charged. As many as 15 people were buried in their homes this year which is rather on the high side, he noted.

Mr. Aidoo Mensah therefore advised assembly members and traditional leaders who usually endorse such request to desist from it or else the assembly may be compelled to refuse such requests in the interest of promoting good health.
