The Asuogyaman District Assembly has collaborated with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Anum Senior High School to put up temporal classroom pavilion for displaced students.
The assembly is providing about twenty thousand Ghana cedis (GHs20,000) to assist the PTA to provide 14-unit classrooms for the students especially at the time the fresh students have started arriving to commence academic work.
Anum Senior High School is currently faced with severe inadequate classroom block following the conversion of a number of classroom blocks into boys’ dormitory.
Students had been evacuated from their usually dormitory block following serious structure defect to the block resulting from long years of use. After engineers assessed the extent of defect, they recommended immediate evacuation of the students to avoid any disaster. The school had no option than to obey the advice.
However, the only option was to convert classrooms into dormitory blocks until alternative arrangements are made. The situation was manageable at the time since it was left with only the newly promoted form 2 and 3 students. Pressure is however mounting to make room for the first year students.
During a working tour to the school, District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko said the situation is worrying and would do everything possible to address the situation. According to him, engineers have recommended that the structure can be refurbished and that would be the main priority of the assembly to address. As such he pledged to work towards it seriously.
The DCE is also providing funds to complete water pumping project that will help the school draw water from the river to the school to addressing the water problem in the school.
Assistant Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Elizabeth Gadagbui Dzade commended the DCE for the concern so far shown towards addressing the challenges confronting the school and hoped that with his involvement things will move faster.
