The East Akim Municipal Assembly has initiated a new social intervention programme to assist basic school pupils in deprived communities.

Assembly in collaboration with Bright Generation Community Foundation,a non governmental organisation based in Kumasi is providing students with school sandals.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, Municipal Chief Executive, Simon Peter Asirifi said one of the problems pupils are confronted with is footwear, and since government is providing free school uniforms, the assembly deemed it prudent to complete efforts of government with these assistance.

According to him, 1000 pairs of sandals have so far been distributed to some the pupils. this would be followed by 1000 pairs every 6 months for the next five years.

He was confident al l these interventions would finally paid off when the municipality begin registering rapid improvement in standard of education.
