Nene Mahumansuro XIII, le Mantse of Agortime Traditional Area has described the 12th edition of the Kente Festival of the people of Agortime as a memorable one,and one which marks a milestone in the history of Agortime.
He indicated that never in the history of agortime has all the 17 towns
participated in the celebration.it is therefore heartwarming that they have agreed to put behind their differences in order to move forward.
"It is the time that we have positioned ourselves to use the strength that is in unity to defend, protect and develop our land for the prosperity of our people" he emphasised.
Nene Mahumansuro III made the remark on the occasion of the firing of musketry at Agortime Afegame to mark the commencement of the 12th Kente Festival of the chiefs and people of Agortime Traditional Area at Agortime Afegame, the ancestral town.
It was attended by the Minister of Tourism and member of Parliament for Ho East, Honourable Juliana Azumah-Mensah, the District Chief Executive, chiefs, queens and other invited guests.
The Le Mantse urged the people to remain united as they start the process of developing the talents of the people, the resources and culture of the land.
He acknowledged how rough the process would be but stated that with patience, tolerance, understanding, love, forgiveness, respect for traditions and each other, determination and perseverance, they would realise their dreams of development.
"it is important that all of us hold fast on to these virtues as we celebrate the festival and move forward as a people".
He expressed regret that the kente weaving and pottery talents of their ancestors have remain hidden in many of the youth.
The agricultural, industrial and eco-tourism potentials of the land have remained undiscovered and underdeveloped while the traditions and customs are fading away to the extent that most of the youth cannot speak their native language.
He therefore called for concious efforts to addresing these problems.
Mr Elvis Ativoe,a member of the planning committee and a youth leader explained that the occasion of the firing of masketary is held in high esteem because it signifies the bravery of their forefathers at war which offer them rights over the lands they occupy.
