NALAG Donates 49,450 Exercise Books to Ashanti MMDAs to Boost Education in Deprived Communities

The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has presented 49,450 exercise books to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) for onward distribution to all 43 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region to support education in deprived communities.

The presentation, held on July 28, 2026, forms part of NALAG's commitment to improving access to educational materials and enhancing learning outcomes for pupils in underserved communities across the country.

Presenting the books, the Ashanti Regional Representative of NALAG and Presiding Member of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, Hon. Nana Yaw Wiredu, explained that the initiative was adopted by the National Executives of NALAG during the Association's conference as a legacy project to support education nationwide.

He noted that education remains fundamental to effective local governance and sustainable national development, adding that every child deserves access to basic learning materials regardless of their location.

According to him, each of the 43 MMDAs in the Ashanti Region will receive 1,150 exercise books for distribution to schools in deprived communities within their respective jurisdictions.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and First Vice President of NALAG, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, described the initiative as a transformative intervention that would have a lasting impact on education.

He expressed optimism that the programme would be sustained in subsequent years and urged the assemblies to ensure that the exercise books are distributed to the intended beneficiary schools to achieve the objective of the initiative.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Chief Director of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Assistant Director Mr. Andy Ampofo Ghanson expressed appreciation to NALAG for the thoughtful gesture.

He commended the Association for complementing government's efforts to improve education and assured that the exercise books would be distributed fairly to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies for onward delivery to schools in deprived communities.

The donation is expected to ease the burden on pupils and parents while promoting quality education and improving learning conditions across the Ashanti Region.
