AOWIN: Enchico 5th graduation; principal boasts of remarkable improvements

Enchi College of Education (ENCHICO) in the Aowin District of the Western region has held its 5th graduation ceremony over the weekend in a colorful ceremony at the forecourt of the institution.
It was on the theme: “Enhancing quality education in Ghana, the role of the newly trained teachers”.
Delivering her welcome address at the ceremony, the principal of the college Madam Victoria Aidoo highlighted on the high academic laurels the college had achieved so far whiles adding that the college has over the years produced well refined teachers for the educational sector in the country.
She added that it was gratifying to note that the college has also included information communication technology into its tutoring process to enable their students be at par with the rest of the world.
French programme
On projects, Madam Aidoo talked about an ultra-modern centre put up by the college which has lecture halls, language laboratories, library, offices and other ancillary facilities to serve as lecture hall for a proposed Diploma in French programme and appealled to the Professional Board of Institute of Education to give the college the green light to start the programme next academic year.
She revealed that, for the first time in the annals of the college, they were able to admit 370 students last year as against the previous quota of 170.
In light of the above however, the principal said the college has embarked on provision of more furniture in anticipation of future intakes and reducing pressure on the college’s amenities.
Challenges
Despite the above achievements, Madam Aidoo lamented that bad road network on campus, lack of pavements, poor electrical installations, inadequate supervision of students on internship due to lack of vehicles, as some of the challenges facing the school whilst pleading on government, agencies, institutions and individuals to come to their aid.
The special guest of honour and Western Regional Director of Education, Mr. Augustus Nii Lante Clerland for his part said because Colleges of education have the responsibility of producing the needed teachers for schools in the country there was however the need for them to put in place pragmatic measures to safeguard academic and professional standards that would promote learning opportunities for trainees.
“Quality education was not only education of appendage of any product but a system that produces well educated individuals who can handle matters of concern within the areas of their studies proficiently,” he added.
Newly trained teachers for progress
In his valedictory address, the overall best student, Mr. Benjamin Botwe said challenged his colleagues grandaunts to go out as a crop of newly-trained teachers who were poised for action and progress.
“As fresh blood in the pool of the teaching service, present yourselves as agents of positive change in our schools,” he advised.
In all 167 students graduated comprising 111 males and 56 females.
