Residents of New and Old Yakasi on Monday witnessed a ground breaking ceremony by the Chief Executive for Aowin District Assembly in the Western Region to kick-start a small water project for the two towns.
Delivering his speech at the programme at New Yakasi, the DCE, Mr. Oscar Larbi cautioned residents not to misuse the facility but maintain it in order to prolong its lifespan.
He observed most government projects break down due to negligence on the part of residents since they tend to misuse the projects.
The Regional Engineer, Mr. Bismark Siabi-Mensah also spoke about the sustainability of the projects when they were finally completed, and called on the Water and Sanitation (WASH) team to monitor the project.
For his part, chief of Old Yakasi, Nana Kwame observed that the two (2) towns had survived all these while relying on harvested rain water and a river as their main source of water for domestic purposes; a situation he said resulted in many water related ailments.
“So for the government to embark on this projects was a welcoming one,” he said.
He however embraced the project and was grateful to the government and district assembly for the project.
Meanwhile the project is set to commence on 1st April and end on 1st December 2014.
