Hon. Alhaji Kwaku Doku, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Asunafo North in the Brong Ahafo Region has commissioned three classroom blocks to Aboaboso, Bedabour and Antwiadjeikrom communities in the municipality.

Speaking at the events, Hon Doku said the school blocks were in line with the NDC government’s “Better Ghana Agenda” policy to remove all schools under trees.

He averred that in spite of the challenges in 2013, the NDC Government had provided Gh¢ 11,900,000 to 10 basic schools to improve their facilities.

Hon. Doku said, irrespective of the immense efforts made by the government to improve education in the municipality, the performance of students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is not impressive and owing to that, the Municipal Education Oversight Committee (MEOC), being the highest constitutionally mandated educational decision making body in the municipal level has been set up to monitor the sector and recommend solutions.

“Teacher performance will be measured according to the performance of their students”, he noted. He therefore entreated teachers to put up their best to improve the performance of the students.

Hon Alhaji Doku assured the headmasters and the natives of the communities of providing them with electricity, teacher’s bungalow, speed ramps, electricity generators, computers and accessories to enhance ICT education.

He assured the people of reshaping and improving the road networks in the communities for easy carting of farm produce to the market for sale.

Mr Jonas Yeboah Yelbuori, the Municipal Education Director stated that ensuring quality education is everyone’s business.

“As the government fulfils its part of the deal by providing school blocks with ancillary facilities, paying salaries and providing teaching and learning materials, parents and teachers should do their part by providing a good atmosphere and conditions to enhance their ward’s education”, he noted.

He also asked the people to ensure proper maintenance of the buildings and charged the students to take education seriously in order not to waste the efforts of government.

Mr Yelbuori presented text books and other teaching and learning materials to the schools on behalf of the government and Ministry Of Education.

Mr Osei Agyemang - Headmaster of Aboaboso L/A Primary, Mr Asiedu - Headmaster of Bedabour L/A Primary - and Mr Prosper Awuku - Headmaster of Antwiadjeikrom on behalf of their Chiefs, pupils and staff showed their appreciation to the government for its immense contribution to the bettering the lot of the people in the community and the municipality.
