Some peasant and smallholder farmers of three Sissala East communities in the Upper West Region will soon enjoy meaningful support from Needy Farms, a non-governmental organization (NGO) set to offer assistance to keep and encourage poor farmers in business and boost the development of agric.
The Member of Parliament for Sissala East constituency, Sulemana Alijata Gbentie who spearheaded this move and lobbied for such support says this was aimed at alleviating poverty in the system and improving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians in the area.
Elaborating on this move, Madam Sulemana intimated that as part of this support, farmers in the three earmarked communities, which included Pieng, Challu, Nabugubelle would be given some farm inputs and cloth for women engaged in farming in these environs.
She indicated that a total of 280 women will duly receive 140 full pieces of cloth, whiles the package also involves certain seedlings and fertilizers which are ready to be distributed to farmers within these three communities.Beneficiary farmers are scheduled to make repayment after harvest with no interest to it, she added.
She echoed that the region has been identified as the poorest amongst the three region up-north, whiles the area is an agrarian society, thereby such support were very apt and will ostensibly inure the benefits of the locals.
Madam Sulemana Gbentie assured that all things being equal, the items would be distributed to beneficiary communities by next week.
