The Sefwi Akontombra District Chief Executive, Peter Nkuah, has inaugurated two School Feeding Implementation Committees at separate functions at Nkwadum and Ackaakrom in the Western Region.

He advised the committee members to explore possible ways to sustain the programme in their respective communities "because release of funds to run the programme is often delayed."

Mr. Nkua noted that the school feeding programme had increased enrolment in beneficiary schools and also helped many parents in terms of feeding their children who attend school.

"These children are your own and so the sustainability of the programme should be your priority and dearer to you than the government," he told the members.

The acting District Director of Agriculture, Mr Frimpong-Manso Donkor, asked the chiefs and people of the two communities to release land for use as demonstration farms whose produce would be sold at subsidised prices to the schools.

The District Coordinating Director, Mr Alhassan Mahamadu Kamara, outlining the role of the committees, said the members would assist the matrons to secure a good storage facility and kitchen for the beneficiary schools in the respective communities.

Mr Kamara expressed the assembly’s readiness to assist communities in the district to embark on self help projects to support the feeding programme.
