Licensed Chemical Sellers (LCSs) from the Northern Zone, have been taken through training in emergency life saving techniques.
The training workshop organised by the Pharmacy Council saw participants drawn from various districts in the Northern Region including Kpandai, Zabzugu/Tatale, Saboba, Gusheigu, Chereponi, Karaga, Nanumba North and Yendi Municipal were the workshop took place.
Participants were taken through the Introduction to Basic Life Support; Chain of Survival Sequence of Events; Rescue Breaths; Recovery Positions and Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Sequence, among others.
Mr Michael Kudebong,Manager of Pharmacy Council in-charge of the three Northern Regions, said basic life support is necessary when a person becomes unconscious.
He stated that the actions taken between the time a victim collapses and when he receives professional help is critical because life support interventions must be timely and appropriate.
He pointed out that the initial and temporary help given to the victim of an injury before the arrival of an ambulance and qualified personnel is referred to as basic life support.
According to the Manager, clinical death occurs when a patient’s breathing and heart beat stop and biological death occurs within 10 minutes of clinical death and it is not reversible.
He, therefore, advised the chemical sellers to acquire knowledge in basic life support and personal hygiene so that they could go to the aid of victims when accidents occur.
Mr Kudebong advised the LCSs to sell their drugs only at the approved premises by the Council.
He warned them against engaging drug peddlers to sell their drugs in the markets and the communities because it was against the Pharmacy Council’s regulations.
