The Oti River Leprosarium Hospital at Nchanchina in the Kpandai District, is said to be in shambles and needs urgent assistance to save it from total collapse.
The Kpandai District Chief Executive, Hon. James Kpajal said the district has 13 health centres with only one hospital that provides the health needs of the people in the district.
He expressed worry about the state of the only hospital in the district, saying it was seriously understaffed explaining that there is not a single medical doctor at the hospital.
"The hospital is manned by two nurses with a number of health assistants employed under the National Youth Employment Programme", he added.
The Oti Leprosarium was established so many years ago to cater for people suffering from leprosy, but also has a hospital section that treats other ailments, he stated.
"Currently, patients affected with leprosy only visit the place for food aids provided by the Ghana Leprosarium Association", he noted.
He indicated that even though there is a well constructed staff quarters, there are no occupants.
"Many appeals to the central government is yet to yield any positive result", he said.
The hospital, he indicated, also lacks electricity but added that the assembly has acquired electric poles for the area and would soon get electricity to the place.
The DCE therefore appealed to government and other agencies to help the hospital with medical equipments, and medical doctors.
