ASSIN NORTH : Assembly assists residents

The Assin North Municipal Assembly has embarked on the implementation of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme to assist the aged, orphans, vulnerable children and the severely disabled persons.

The Assin North Municipal Assembly has embarked on the implementation of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme to assist the aged, orphans, vulnerable children and the severely disabled persons.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Karikari Appau, who disclosed this in an interview at Foso said the programme provided direct cash of GH¢16 to each beneficiary household for two months.

He said so far 84 individuals from four communities in the Assin North Municipality are currently benefiting.

The communities are Assin Dansame, Assin Bereku, Assin Brofoyedur and Assin Nyankumasi and two more communities would be included when the phase two of the programme begins.

On European Union Micro Projects, Mr. Karikari Appau said last year, the Assembly benefited from eight projects.

The projects included construction of teacher’s quarters at Assin Wurakese, culvert at Assin Kushea, 16-seater vault chamber at Assin Foso (New Zongo), 10 seater vault chamber at Assin Brasiako, 10 seater-vault chamber at Assin Aponsie and 10-seater vault chamber at Assin Akropong and Assin Odumase.

He said the Assembly has submitted three projects comprising construction of three unit-classroom block with office, store, toilet and urinal facilities, 16- seater vault chamber toilet at Jumsco and

Pumpside and construction of culverts at Pantuase-Foso Dunkwa road for approval.
