The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly is set to witness a major boost in local commerce following the commencement of the construction of a modern market under the Government's 24-Hour Economy initiative.
The project, which is being undertaken at Agona Nkwanta, is expected to provide traders with a modern and spacious trading environment while creating opportunities for businesses to operate beyond the traditional trading hours.
The sod-cutting ceremony brought together government officials, municipal authorities, traditional leaders and residents, who described the project as a significant step towards promoting economic growth and job creation in the municipality.
Speaking at the ceremony, officials noted that the new market forms part of government's broader strategy to expand commercial infrastructure, support small and medium-scale enterprises, and improve market access for farmers, traders and artisans across the Municipality.
The facility is expected to ease congestion at the existing Agona Nkwanta market while providing improved amenities, including modern trading spaces, sanitation facilities, access roads and other essential infrastructure to enhance business activities.
The Assembly indicated that the project would also stimulate investment and strengthen local economic development by creating direct and indirect employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases.
Residents and traders welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the new market would improve trading conditions, attract more customers and increase incomes for businesses operating within the municipality.
The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government programmes aimed at transforming local economies and improving the livelihoods of residents through strategic infrastructure investments.
