The forum convened key actors from flood-prone communities within the district to address the urgent necessity for preparedness and proactive community-level education.

In her address, the DCE underscored the critical importance of timely and coordinated community sensitization efforts.

She highlighted the need for robust early warning systems and effective local-level planning to mitigate the impact of any potential flood events. "Our focus must be on ensuring our communities are well-informed and prepared," stated the DCE.

Furthermore, the DCE Sandra Seyram Kpedor seized the opportunity to reiterate a long-standing concern regarding the Keta Lagoon. She emphasized the urgent need for its dredging to enhance its capacity to manage large volumes of excess water during potential flood incidents.

Additionally, she called for the immediate removal of a sandbar blockage at the Fuveme estuary, which currently impedes the free flow of water into the sea, thereby exacerbating flooding in the low-lying areas.

Madam Kpedor stressed that collaborative efforts involving the VRA, NADMO, the District Assembly, traditional authorities, and community leaders are paramount to ensuring the safety and resilience of the district's inhabitants.

The engagement marks a significant step towards strengthening community preparedness and response mechanisms.
