Traditional authorities in the Akatsi North District n the Volta Region have called on the District Assembly to institute measures to rake in more revenue for the assembly fron stone quarry and sand winning activities in the district.

The Chief of Ave-Atanvi, Togbe Dunyo making contributions at the first District Public Account forum opined that the quest for the assembly to increase revenue to meet developmental challenges of the people is in the right direction and reminded them of a golden opportunity that was not being properly tapped.

With stone quarry and sand winning taking place in the district, Togbe Dunyo said the stone and sand are natural resources held in trust by the state for the people as such those involved should be properly tax so the assembly can make money to benefit all the citizens and not just individuals.

District Chief Executive, James Gunu who applauded the suggestions however noted that it was one of the areas the assembly is hoping to explore to and has started erecting borders at vantage points to track the trucks for payment.  He said some investors have expressed interest and are preparing to establish quarry soon in the district, adding that the assembly is following up for the success of the project in order to help reduce unemployment among the youth.

The DCE also added that there are also positive plans for the trenches left behind after quarry and sand winning. These places would be converted into aquaculture and irrigation dams to promote agriculture.

Meanwhile, some of the participants have appealed to authorities to institute measures to increase patronage of their markets especially traders from other parts of the country.
