Citizens of Ave-Afiadenyigba living abroad have been advised to come home and support efforts of the district assembly, government and the other citizens at home to develop the town to an appreciable status.

Citizens of Ave-Afiadenyigba living abroad have been advised to come home and support efforts of the district assembly, government and the other citizens at home to develop the town to an appreciable status.

They have been called upon to direct some of their investments to back home as a way of providing jobs for their people and give them hope for better living conditions.

James Gunu, District Chief Executive for the Akatsi North District gave the advice at maiden Dunenyo-home coming festival celebrated by the people to ensure accelerated development of their communities. It was celebrated to raise funds for the construction of a community centre estimated at GH200, 000.00.

The DCE reminded citizens of investment potentials in the district that are begging for attention, adding that the district assembly is well prepared to enter into public-private-partnership with any investor but said the citizens must take up the challenge if they are interested in turning the fortunes of their people around.

He said the housing sector needs urgent attention to provide conducive accommodation for workers posted to work in the district as well as neighbouring districts, adding that the assembly has started something but is looking for financial injection to fulfill its objective of putting up affordable housing units.

On the community centre project, the DCE tasked the planning committee to liaise with the assembly and come out with more realistic estimate since the amounted quoted was on the higher side considering the needs of the communities. “The assembly will want to help but the cost is too much”, he stated. He however made a pledge of 50 bags of cement towards the project and urged the people to be patient with government to fulfill all promises made to them since two of them the football field and streetlights have been provided. “Already the Afiadenyigba Irrigation project is receiving attention from government with effort to work on the spill-ways to ensure enough water is stored in the dam almost concluded.

Currently, 50 farmers are working on the farm cultivating different crops while the assembly also commenced its district farm using the same dam. According to him, it is a project to transform agriculture in the area to give meaning to the poverty reduction drive of the government. Other projects earmarked for the community include 1kilometer road from Ave Afiadenyigba Junction to Gborxoxome including drainage facilities, and giving face-lift to the Ave-Afiadenyigba Market to revamp trading activities. 

He commended Rev. Father Adri for his role in ensuring that the Rotary Club of Ghana provided mechanized boreholes for the communities.
