The New Juaben Municipal Assembly is to construct a lorry station and stores at the old Koforidua-Ho-Somanya station popularly known as ofos line as a measure to decongest the area and give it a facelift.
The project, scheduled to beginin August, is expected to be completed in December.
Speaking to newsmen in an interview the Chief Development Planning Officer for the Assembly, Mr Anthony Amponsah, said the Assembly had received its share of a grant from the government for all municipal assemblies for development projects.
He said the Assembly received $ 598,531.43 as its share and decided to use part it for the reconstruction of the lorry station.
Mr Amponsah said the Assembly had met all occupants of the station to notify them of the project and that even though all was set for its start, the assembly would assist the traders to have a suitable location to ensure that they are not thrown out of business.
Under the project the Assembly will pave the lorry park, construct an 18- seater capacity water closet toilet,a three-storey building with each containing 40 lockable stores, a passenger terminal and 120 sheds.
The site for the project has been occupied by traders including second hand cloth dealers, food vendors and other small scale traders over the years and the assembly has scheduled a meeting to engage the traders again on their relocation and then give them the period to vacate to pave way for the project.
