The Effiduase Methodist School Complex near Koforidua, has launched a 60,000-Ghana-Cedi project to construct a wall around the school.
Launching the project on Palm Sunday at the Effiduase Calvary Methodist Church, the Superintendent Minister and Local Manager of Methodist Schools, Very Reverend Baafour Asamoah Adjei, recounted that the school which is over 120 years old had trained many people, some of whom are currently chief executives of many state and private institutions.
Very Rev Adjei said, it is time for all old pupils to help raise funds to undertake the project for their alma mater, and protect the school children and teachers against intruders.
He said not quiet long, a naked lunatic went to the school which made the school children to run away to their homes.
This, he said, and disrupted teaching for that day and on another occasion, another lunatic sneaked into one of the old classrooms and set it ablaze, and personnel from the Fire Service had to be called in to help put out the fire.
Very Rev Adjei said it is time for the old students of the school and the Effiduase community to demonstrate their appreciation of what the school has done for them, by contributing their quota towards the protection of the school for the next generation.
The Chief of Effiduase and an old student, Nana Okowia Dwomo Baabu, regretted that in recent times, the school compound had been turned into a place for social vices in the community at night, and expressed his appreciation for the decision to wall the school.
He pledged the support of the traditional authorities of Effiduase and the old students of the school towards the construction of the school wall.
An appeal for funds in aid of the project yielded 3,074 Ghana Cedis.
