Some selected deprived communities in the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam District in the Central Region have been earmarked to benefit from potable water expansion program to be carried out in the district.

The IDA World Bank Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project is working with the district assembly to kick start the projects, District Chief Executive, Peter Light Koomson has stated.

The DCE who was addressing assembly members at the first ordinary meeting of the assembly said the projects which include construction of boreholes to supplement water that gets to the people from the Ghana Water Company will be funded by the World Bank and will be facilitated by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency.

He said the targeted communities are those in saline belts; some of which include Attakurasi, Esseman, Abaasa, Kromaim and Ampia-Ejumako among others.

These communities currently experience erratic water supply forcing residents to resort to other alternative means to get water which might not be safe and make them vulnerable to diseases attack.

Mr. Koomson therefore urged Assembly members to identify communities in their electoral areas that lack water, especially those that are disadvantaged because of salinity and submit them for consideration.
