15 Assembly members of the Ajumako District of the Central Region have threatened to sue the District Assembly and the Electoral Officer in the area.

The Assembly members are accusing the Electoral Officer for illegally confirming the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE), Peter Koomson without getting two thirds of votes of assembly members.

They also are raising concerns about the swearing in of eight new government appointees in the Ajumako district without following the laid down procedures.

Speaking to Citi News, the Assembly member for Kromaim Electoral Area Noah Osei Asenso said the voting process must be annulled.

“We are suing the district assembly for flouting our standing orders by swearing in eight new assembly members without going through the necessary process and we are suing the electoral officer for declaring Peter Light Koomson as the elected DCE even though he failed to attain two thirds of the present member’s vote.”

Mr. Asenso further mentioned, “we are in the office of our lawyer and he is studying our standing orders and constitution. What we are saying is that the man failed to attain two thirds so he’s not supposed to be DCE of the district.”

According to him, “the votes were characterized by illegalities. Illegal assembly members joined to vote and therefore it makes the voting null and void.”

Meanwhile, eight government appointees in the Ajumako district have been sacked after refusing to confirm the President’s nominee for DCE in the first voting.

A similar incident also happened in the Asikuma - Odobeng - Brakwa district were 10 government appointees were dismissed.
