District Chief Executive for Jirapa, Vivien-Nelly Kunko has reiterated her resolve to ensure sustainable development of the district when she met with chiefs and opinion leaders in the district at the assembly.

She however stated unequivocally that the district can only achieve development when they unit and collaborate effectively with each other in sharing ideas and pool resources to deal with challenges confronting them. She said the District Security Council (DISEC) is also looking forward to dealing with all security threats in the district as soon as possible.

The DCE identified among other things three issues including activities of Fulani herdsmen, illegal mining popularly called galamsey, and illegal erections of speed ramps. According to her intelligence picked up indicated that Fulani herdsmen have been stealing other people’s cattle and this can easily degenerate into confrontations.

She however indicated that the herdsmen cannot be driven away only to settle in nearby districts. As such the herdsmen will be registered and given tag for easy identification; they will also be allowed to stay close to the communities for easy monitoring.  She also stated that by this measures, authorities will monitor and ensure only healthy cattle are slaughtered for public consumption.

On illegal speed ramps, Madam Kunko said the practice should not be encouraged since it resulted in loss of many lives and impede smooth movement of traffic. She advised the people to consult authorities at the assembly if they need speed ramps for expert advice. She thus urged the people to remove all illegal speed ramps before the monitoring team gets to the communities.
