The implementation of the National Street Naming and Property Numbering System is in full course in the Jirapa District of the Upper West Region, following a number of measures put in so far by the Assembly.
Major among the measures include the bringing in of an external technical team from Accra and Tamale, to help track all streets including existing and non-existing ones in Jirapa town for naming.
Madam Vivien-Nelly Kunko, Jirapa District Chief Executive (DCE), who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the base map of Jirapa had already been drawn.
She said a committee had been inaugurated and orientated to oversee the successful implementation of the project in the district.
Landlords have equally been sensitized on the project, as a way of winning their co-operation in anticipation of any demolishing exercise.
The DEC added that estimates had also been taken by engineers from Highways and Feeder Roads, giving them a fair understanding of what was needed in terms of logistics and funds.
Madam Kunko said a stakeholders’ consultative meeting would be held on Tuesday to collect proposed names for the streets.
The Street Naming and Property Numbering Policy is aimed at harmonization consistency, efficiency and standardization of street addressing system in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as increase revenue and improve urban management.
