The District Chief Executive of Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District (THLD) Assembly, Mr Francis Korankye Sekyi has inaugurated a nine-member Street Address Team at Twifo Hemang in the Central region.

The District Chief Executive said the Local Government Act 1993, Act 462 which established the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies designated them as planning and rating of authorities.

“For that reason the Assemblies have responsibilities for spatial planning to primarily address the issues of orderly human settlement and development,” he stressed.

Mr Korankye noted that it was on this score that the President launched the National Operation Guidelines on Street Naming and Property Addressing System as well as the National Street Naming Property Address Policy where he charged all District Assemblies to ensure completion of the project within eighteen months.

He said the street address system would facilitate mobilisation of local revenue also known as Internal Generated Funds (IGF) and management of the urban/rural settings and services.

He further mentioned that the street addressing system would be a tool for planning and managing municipal services by making it possible for decentralised agencies to identify and monitor public assets in respect of their age, number and condition to facilitate urban/rural planning and management of investment.

Babbah - District Works Engineer; Ms. Matilda Ansah - District Information Officer, Nana Amoah Sasraku II - Omanhene of Hemang Traditional Council; Stephen Ackom – Chairperson - Works Sub-Committee; John Felix Krampah – Chairperson - Development Planning Sub-Committee.
