The Nyame Ani Methodist Primary School in the Bosomtwe District has benefited from the benevolence of Voltic Ghana Limited, which sponsored a health screening exercise for the about 200 pupils and teachers.

The screening was given a professional touch by a medical team from the District Hospital at Kuntanase.

The 25-member team, comprising laboratory technicians, nutritionists, dental nurses, dispensary technicians, clinicians, and nurses for special services like Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), screened the pupils and teachers for malaria parasites, malnutrition and dental screening, as well as diabetics and hypertension for the teachers and a section of the members of the community.

The beneficiaries were given anti-malaria drugs, blood tonic and food supplements and deworming drugs after the screening, while others with complex cases were referred to the district hospital.

The health screening exercise formed part of the corporate social responsibility of Voltic, which has been operating its second plant at Nyame Ani, since December 2008.

Mr. Cyrus deGraft-Johnson, Corporate Affairs Manager of Voltic, said the exercise was another way of giving back to society, and to find out the peculiar health needs of the community for the necessary action.

He gave the assurance that the exercise would be sustained, and that it would be extended to other schools in the community.

Mr. DeGraft Johnson announced that Voltic Ghana Limited was considering supporting the local Methodist Clinic.

The District Director of Ghana Health Services, Mr. Joseph Adomako, expressed appreciation to Voltic Ghana Limited, saying the gesture would contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals, four of which focus on the health of children.

Mr. Maxwell Osei Bonsu, Headteacher of the Nyame Ani Methodist Primary School, and Nana Dabanka Bonsu, Gyasehene of the community, thanked the company for the health screening, which they saw as a firm commitment of Voltic’s resolve to see to the health needs of the people.
