The Volta Regional Police Command has denied allegations that it is being used to intimidate the youth and National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives of Nkwanta North constituency.

The executives who are in hiding for fear of being arrested have indicated that the District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee, Paul Dsato is using the Police to terrorize them after they opposed his re-nomination.

So far, 25 people were arrested on Saturday and are being screened by the Police.

Speaking to Citi News, the Volta Regional Police Commander, ACP Fred Agyepong Asare said: “The police are not after any group of people or going after people with mischief in mind. However the police cannot sit down unconcerned without taking action against offenders who have destroyed government property.”

According to him, the offenders of last Thursday’s violence are the ones being sought after thus, the need for them to take action.

He lamented that saying, “it is not correct for people to misinterpret their action of pursuing people who have destroyed government property as being biased against them.”

Meanwhile, 7 out of the 25 people who were arrested by the police have been released.

According to the police, the seven were found innocent after a screening exercise.

The remaining 19 are however being held in custody whiles investigations continue.
