Communities in the Atebubu District which are usually cut off from the district capital during rainy season, have been procured with canoes to help them commute to other parts of the district especially the district capital during rainy seasons.

The District Chief Executive, Mr. Sanja Nanja in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com disclosed that 6 canoes have so far been procured by the assembly for this purpose.

The communities including Nyansibu, Bolga Nkwanta, Kotokpei, Mosimosi Pruso No.2 among a host of others travel across rivers and streams to get to the district capital using small boats and footbridges. However, this becomes impossible during the rainy season when the rivers and streams overflow their banks thus cutting the communities from the rest depriving them of their economic activities.

On revenue mobilization, the assembly has acquired a tipper truck on high purchase which will be deducted from the assembly’s common fund. The equipment which would be for commercial use is expected to increase the assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF) to boost development in the district, he added.

Additionally, Mr. Nanja said the people lack a vibrat market place to sale their produce especially farm produce, so the asembly is planning to create a market centre where the citizens can do business and also pay revenue to the assembly.

A task force is also being formed to improve revenue collection in the district, he added.
