The government has awarded a contract for the construction of 300 resettlement houses for the people ofAdzido-Vodza-Kedzi areas in the Keta District in the Volta Region.

The government has awarded a contract for the construction of 300 resettlement houses for the people ofAdzido-Vodza-Kedzi areas in the Keta District in the Volta Region.

The Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Mr. Albert Abongo, announced in a speech read on his behalf by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta, Mr. Richard Lassey, at the launch of the 40th anniversary of Kedzi Welfare Union in Accra.

It was on the theme: "Harnesing all human and material resources to build Kedzi".

Mr. Abongo said fund for the project would be released for work to begin by the end of the month.

He said besides being part of the government’s commitment to provide accommodation for the people, the new buildings are to resettle hundreds of residents of Keta and its environs from the ravages of the sea.

The minister urged the union to serve as a presure group to ensure that only those buildings were destroyed in the ravages would be compensated.

He laudd the initiatives of the union towards developing their area but urged them to ensure that initiatives did not only remain on paper.

Mr.Abongo expressed concern about the poor academic results of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in some parts of the country, and called on the union to make education their priority.

The immidiate past Dean of Social Studies at the University of Ghana, prof. Atsu Ayee, said in harnessing resources, theor leadership must be proactive.

He said every development progamme ha two sides, the side of the citizens, adding that both sides must honour their bargain  to complete the circuit.

Prof. Ayee called for collaboration between the union and the government to execute their development agenda.

In a welcoming address, the Dufia of Kedzi, togbui Joachim Acolatse IV, appealed to the government to tar the Keta-Havedzi Junction road up to Horhi.

He said that stretch of road was rough and dusty, which worried the residents, drivers and passengers along the road.

Togbui Acolatse also called for the completion of the electrification project, extending the water project to cover the whole town and also releasing one of the newly built houses to be allocated to the Kedzi Traditional Authority to use as offices.

In a solidarity message, the secretary to Anloga Union, Mr koku Agbetorwoka, stressed the need for collaboration between the various associations in the district, saying "we have similar challenges, so we must come and work together as one".
