Tidal waves have pounded Akplorwotokor and surrounding communities in the Anlo constituency in the Volta region causing extensive damage to property and cutting the citizens from the rest of the constituency.
Other communities affected include Dzita, Anyanui, Bomigo, Atiteti and Fuveme.
The waves, which occured early August, 2009, left in their trail, huge sand deposits on a one-kilometre stretch of the Anloga-Anyanui road, which made it difficult for some of the affected communities to commute to the Anyanui market to buy food stuffs and other essentials.
The situation compelled some of the residents to walk at least a kilometre before they could board taxis to their destinations.
The communities organised communal labour under the leadership of the Member of Parliament for Anlo, Mr Clement Kofi Humado, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Slyvester Tornyeava, and assembly members from Dzita and Atorkor to clear some of the sand deposits to make it possible for some vehicles to ply the road.
Farmers also expressed their joy at the communal spirit exhibited by residents and appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency protect the area to avert any major disaster in future.
