The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region, Hon Stephen Lord Oppong has called for collective effort in uplifting the image of the assembly.
He expressed worry about the way the district was well endowed and yet was still lagging behind in terms of development.
Speaking to assembly members in the area, he said, "Berekum prides herself as a municipality with rich and industrious populace, it is an indisputable fact that our community, sadly lacks the requisite complement of social infrastructure coupled with low level education, agricultural production and high disease and security risks."
Hon. Oppong also expressed worry about the deplorable state of roads in the municipal adding that electricity, water and other facilities needed serious improvement .
He also noted that there was a high rate of unemployment among the youth in the area.
The DCE said there was the need to deliberate on ways of improving the assembly’s revenue collection machinery as well as plugging all existing loopholes in the system.
According to him, the targetted revenue for 2009 is GHC 259.955.00, however as at April 30, 2009 only 67,171.21 had been collected, representing 25 per cent of the estimated budget for the year.
"I will therefore wish to humbly entreat all and sundry, regardless of political inclinations and lineages to grant me your strongest support, guidance and goodwill", the MCE urged.
