NATIONAL : National day of prayer
The President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, in consultation with the leadership of the Ghanaian clergy, has declared Sunday, February 1 , 2009 as national day of prayer and thanksgiving to God for the peaceful and successful elections.

The theme of the national day of prayer and thanksgiving is "Uniting Ghana through Christ".

A statement signed by the Chairman, Publicity Sub Committee of the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Planning Committee, Mr Richard Quashigah,said the theme reflected the Presidents determination of ensuring that Ghanaians irrespective of their ethnic, political or religious affiliations saw themselves as one people with a common destiny.
The interdenominational service will take place at the Independence square.
The statement, however, reminded the public that political party colours would not be allowed at the event grounds as the dress code was strictly formal.
It said special Muslim prayers under the auspices of the National Chief Imam would be held at the Abossey Okai Central mosque at 12 noon tomorrow, Friday , January 30 , 2009.
