The bridge on River Offin linking Ahenkro, Kwamang, Boamang, Tetrem and Kyekyewere in the Afigya-Kwabre District is gradually becoming a death trap, Mr Oppong Kyekyeku Kakyire, the District Chief Executive, has noted.
The narrow bridge, which is about 80 years old, claimed 17 lives last year when a bus collided with a taxi on it.
Speaking to Newsmen at Ahenkro after inspecting the dilapidated bridge, Mr Kakyire said he was not happy that since the tragedy last year, little effort had been made to rehabilitate the ageing bridge.
“We can have a repeat of last year’s incident if urgent measures are not put in place to construct a new bridge to replace the old one”, he said.
Mr Kaakyire appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority to as early as possible, come to the aid of the district by reconstructing the bridge which is a death trap for commuters.
