Community Initiatives for Disease Control (CIDC), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) operating in the Northern Region, has donated treated mosquito nets and malaria drugs to the Karaga District Hospital.

The donation was in fulfilment of a promise the NGO made to the hospital last year to help in the treatment of malaria especially among pregnant women.

The Executive Director of the NGO,  Mr. Abduali Rashid who made the presentation, appealed to the government to provide accommodation to the Karaga Hospital to enhance the work of the nurses.

He said the donation of the items was made possible through the Christopher Foundation of Germany, an international NGO.

The District Director of the Karaga Hospital, Mrs. Habiba Amadu Daison, commended the two NGOs for their assistance and said the items would help to reduce malaria in the area.

She said malaria was a major cause of anaemic miscarriages and
abortions in the area.

Mr. Alhassan Sani, Presiding Member of the Karaga District Assembly who received the items on behalf of the hospital, suggested that the community shouldbe involved in the distribution of the items to pregnant women.
