About GH¢2500 worth of drugs meant for livestocks and crops in the Karaga District have gone bad as a result of the energy crises which hit the country.

The District Agric Director, Baba Y.N. Sowalidu who revealed this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com said the district with the help of some NGO,s like World Vision International, Opprtunity International Enterprise, Country Life Improvement Initiative is doing its best to lift agriculture to a different level in order to solve the poverty situation in  the area.

However, problems such as the loss of that quantity of drugs is retarding their efforts. "We need a generator at our disposal to forestall future occurances of this. Most of the drugs are best preserved refrigiration, so when the light goes off, it affects them" he stated.

"It is in view of this that the sector is appealing to government and the assembly to as a matter of agency provide us with at least one generator."

The district also lack veterinary offices where proper diagnosis and treatment of animals would be carried out.

He indicated that farmers are being supported financially, through credits but indicated that the low level of extension officers may hinder their performance.

Instead of at least 32 extension officers required, the district has only 7 and that certain would cause a lot of problem, he said.
