In barely three months this year, two thousand and twenty-three people have registered for the National Health Insurance scheme in the Karaga District bringing the total of registered members to about twelve thousand, one hundred and seventy two.

Out of the total, nine thousand, one hundred and thirty are with card and benefiting from the scheme.

This was made possible through intensive sensitization programmes embarked on last year by the assembly.

With financial support from Government and DANIDA, the scheme was able to organize sensitization programmes in most communities. Through this, those who perceived the scheme as political now realised the benefit they stand to derive hence many are coming forward for registration.

Last year, government, the scheme received 106 billion and 276 thousand from government while DANIDA provided ten million cedis.

The scheme is however faced with shortage of staff. There is therefore the need for more hands and logistics if the scheme is to function properly.

There is also some appreciable percentage of registered members who have not fully paid.

It is believed that the number will increase significantly before the year ends.
