The Talensi District Assembly in the Upper East Region has taken delivery of 600 dual desks as the first consignment of a total of 1,200 dual desks procured to address furniture shortages and improve teaching and learning across schools in the district.

The consignment was received by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi, Hon. John Millim Nabwomya, together with the management of the Talensi District Assembly, as part of the Assembly’s continued efforts to provide quality educational infrastructure and create a more conducive environment for pupils and teachers.

The desks, which are metal-framed with wooden seats and tabletops, are designed to provide durable and suitable furniture for pupils while improving classroom conditions in schools across the district.

Speaking on the delivery, Hon. John Millim Nabwomya explained that following the completion and assembly of the desks, they would be distributed to schools across the district based on identified needs.

He further indicated that the distribution would be undertaken in collaboration with the Talensi District Directorate of Education to ensure that schools with the greatest furniture needs are prioritised.

According to the DCE, proper records would be maintained on the number of desks allocated to each beneficiary school, with the Assembly expected to provide an update on the distribution process to promote transparency, accountability and equitable allocation.

The intervention forms part of the Assembly’s broader commitment to addressing inadequate school furniture and improving the conditions under which teaching and learning take place in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

Hon. John Millim Nabwomya appealed to school authorities, teachers and pupils to take good care of the furniture and ensure that the desks are properly maintained and used for their intended purpose to prolong their lifespan.

The Talensi District Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to delivering development projects and interventions that directly respond to the needs of communities while remaining accountable to the people.
