Under the theme “Strengthening the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption in Ghana” the engagement attracted about fifty participants drawn from Queen mother’s association, faith based organizations, artisans, market women and other interest groups.
According to Mr. Isaac Osei Agyeman the district director of the Commission, the main objective was to empower women with knowledge of their civic rights and responsibilities, legal protections, reporting channels and the appropriate approaches to demand transparency and accountability from people entrusted with power and resources to ensure an accelerated and sustainable development of the district and beyond.
Mr. Agyemang who was the lead facilitator took the gathering through the definition and forms of corruption, rule of law and women’s rights, corruption and women’s vulnerability, legal protections and reporting mechanisms as well as strategies to fight corruption.

He assured participants of their protection under the law making specific reference to the Whistleblower’s Act 2006, (Act 720).
The Kintampo South National Anti-Corruption Action Plan NACAP Coordinator, Mr. Elijah Mawutor took participants through the operations of the Public Relations and Complaints Committee of the district assembly and encouraged them to report cases of unfair treatment as they seek public services from duty bearers and people entrusted with power.
Sgt. Victoria Awuley who deputized for the district police commander whiles disputing the notion that women cannot seek bail for persons in police custody urged the women to desist from paying bribes to police officers in a bid to secure bail for their relations.
Participants recounted numerous acts of corruption they face in their quest to seek services from the public sector and identified where to report such cases for redress.
They resolved to take advantage of lessons learnt to contribute their quota towards the fight against corruption.
