JICA, CRADA AND ACE Japan share experience with Atwima Mponua on child labor free zone in Ghana

The Japan International Corporation Agency, together with other stakeholders from Atwima Mponua District Assembly, Community leaders and other industry players from the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations met on the Thursday 21-04-22 at the Nyinahin Presby Church to examine the success on the fight against child and force labor.

The meeting was to assess the success story, the setbacks and also present proper recommendations for the year-long interactions and education in some eleven (11) piloted and targeted communities within the district.


Miss Akane Totani - ICNet consultant to the JICA CLFZ project expressed the gratitude of her organization to the MELR as well as the line officers who trekked the length and breadth of the district to chalk this success.


Yuki Akahori from ACE- Japan shared same sentiment and pleaded with the District Assembly to own the fight against child and force labor.


She indicated that, the pilot program is the first in Africa in the declaration of Child Labor Free Zone in a district; hence the success of same shall be etched on the future steel of facts.


The line Agencies together through Mr. Prince Thompson of the NCCE presented its findings in the course of their visits to the targeted communities.


These included the following but not limited to poor road networks; sparsely dispersed settlements; religious beliefs; power-play betwixt political players and traditional authorities as the bane against the fighting of child labor.


Mr. Peter Antwi from the MELR noted that, the fight against Child labor is a collaborative effort and pleaded with the District Assembly to allocate resources; both financial and material as well as motivation to the line agencies to lead the crusade. In addition, the labor expert charged the Assembly to promote productive competition, knowledge and experience sharing and also develop and implement sustainable resource mobilization strategies for the CLFZ process.


Dr. Charles Kessben from the National Development Planning Commission stated that, children should be allowed to enjoy their childhood liberty to their satisfaction and the endeavors chalked at the 11 communities must be replicated in other adjourning communities.


Nana Antwi Boasiako Brempong, the Executive Secretary of CRADA, lauded the District Assembly for its commitment to champion such a noble cause. He prayed the line agencies not to relent on the laurels achieved and proceed to wear the crown of glory.
