Atwima Mponua Celebrates the Grand Reopening of the Historic Kotokuom Bridge

Thousands gathered in joyous celebration at the Kotokuom R/C School Park as the newly revitalized Kotokuom Bridge, a landmark from 1957 left untouched , was officially commissioned in a spectacular ceremony within the Atwima Mponua district.

The atmosphere was electric as the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, joined hands with the Deputy Roads Minister,Alhassan Suhini, the District Chhief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua Issahak Ibrahim, and other dignitaries to unveil the vital infrastructure that will boost transportation, economic activity, and security across the district.

Nana Kofi Fofie, representing Agogohene, applauded the government for lifting a 67-year-old burden off the shoulders of the people. He acknowledged the previous administration for road works from Kwanfifi to Akonkye but pleaded for its completion. With rising robbery cases in the area, he also made a passionate appeal for increased security presence.

Mr. Issahak Ibrahim, the DCE, called this project a “perpetual novelty” and promised an era of development etched in steel. He urged traditional leaders and citizens to unite for a legacy-driven transformation of the district.

Mr. Alhassan Suyini, a Member of Parliament and the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways revealed that the President himself fast-tracked the bridge reconstruction after recognizing its danger to constituents. He praised the collaborative effort between the Regional Minister, Minister for Roads, and the Department of Feeder Roads. He also stressed the importance of maintenance to safeguard the new structure.

In his keynote address, Mr. Frank Amoakohene emphasized unity above partisanship and thanked Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his strategic role in making the project a reality. The Minister urged youth engaged in mining to adopt responsible practices and affirmed that government would beef up security in response to community concerns.

After the commissioning, the Minister and his team visited the Kotokuom Police Station, currently in a state of disrepair. He promised swift intervention to renovate the facility for community use. The working tour continued to Nyinahin, where ongoing and abandoned projects were inspected for completion and accountability.

The event was graced by several high-profile personalities, including: Mr. Seth Osei Akoto, Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, Ing. Salisu Mahama, Regional Director of Highways, Ing. Agnes Afi Fuga, Regional Director of Feeder Roads, Ing. Naheem Iddrisu, Regional Director of Urban Roads. Also present were Heads of Departments, traditional authorities, security personnel (Police, Immigration), representatives of political parties, media personnel, and scores of well-wishers from across the region.
