The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante-Akim North, Mr Daniel Osei, has called for an end to the unacceptable practice of sending school children home over non-payment of printing fees and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) dues by teachers.
He said sacking pupils from schools would no longer be tolerated by the district assembly and warned of punitive sanctions against offenders.
The DCE, who was speaking at a meeting with teachers in Agogo, said a better approach would have to be adopted.
He said: "It is important for all stakeholders to work together to make sure that no child is either punished or denied access to education on the basis of poverty.
He announced the assembly’s decision to support brilliant but needy pupils and students, adding that, it had also increased its education budget to improve schools infrastructure to create the right environment for effective teaching and learning.
According to the DCE, about 1,000 dual-desks had been distributed to some schools in the Asante Akim North District.
